Course Spotlight: PICP Specialist

The Permeable Interlocking Concrete Pavement (PICP) Specialist course is the basis for earning the PICP Specialist designation for certified installers. Available to all installers who want to develop their understanding of environmentally-friendly pavements, this course helps participants understand the differences in installing permeable pavers and traditional interlocking concrete pavement systems. The course is available in a virtual format or through live in-person events.

The course covers these topics:

  • System components

  • Job planning and documentation

  • Site flow and estimating

  • Soil and site characteristics

  • Subbase and base materials

  • Edge restraints

  • Bedding and jointing materials

  • Selection and installation of permeable interlocking concrete pavers

  • Maintenance

After successfully completing the course, certified installers must submit an Application for Designation documenting cumulative PICP installation experience of at least 10 paver projects and a minimum of 50,000 square feet or 20 projects and 25,000 square feet to earn the designation. Designations are renewed every 2 years with certification.
