ICPI

This project was completed at the end of October 2020 involving a donation of over 4,000 sf of PICP, base materials and installation. This provided the crowning example among several low impact development (LID) technologies demonstrated at the ASCE headquarters building in Reston, VA. The PICP refreshes the front entrance with gray PICP pavers for visitor parking spaces. The project also included a small landscaped patio with engraved pavers memorializing project donors. The only item remaining in the project is a sign next to the parking lot explaining the PICP. The sign content has been delivered to ASCE for fabrication and installation in the spring.

This effort is part of a retrofit of several LID technologies within a large asphalt parking lot that surrounds the ASCE office building. As the promoters of LID tools, ASCE leadership wanted to set the example at the home office. The result was over 17,000 pavers installed by ICPI member Imperial Stone Paving, Inc. of Elkridge, MD, an ICPI certified installer with a PICP Specialist designation. The pavers were manufactured by ICPI member EP Henry Corporation in Wrightstown, NJ. General contractor Total Development Solutions, LLC. of Bristow, VA provided excavation, concrete work, underdrains, and installation of the subbase and base aggregates as well as geotextiles and geomembranes. The PICP was designed according to a national standard, ASCE 68-18 on Permeable Interlocking Concrete Pavement. The pavement can store and infiltrate rainfall for a maximum 100-year storm. The retrofit project has received significant exposure in ASCE print and digital association communications.
